Jane Bullivant graduated form Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a 1st Class Degree in design in 2018. Her works are carved out of bronze and each is unique.

Jane states: My collection is strongly inspired by myths, folklores, legends and stories, as well as personal observations and interactions involving wildlife creatures. When designing I choose certain aspects, features or details that I find interesting and create my own interpretation (my work does not accurately retell the actual account). I enjoy working with this subject matter and am currently finding it as a never-ending source of inspiration. I enjoy working with non-precious and more alternative materials such as bronze, aluminium, copper, brass and unprocessed timber. By using the process of lost wax casting in bronze, I am able to achieve designs portraying plenty of detail and contrasting textures. In order to create my bronze medals, I first carefully carve the design into wax. This wax design is then coated with several layers of ceramic dust, eventually resulting in a ceramic shell mould. The mould is then dewaxed by means of using a kiln or gas torch to melt all the wax out, leaving a hollow shell mould. When melted, the bronze is then poured into the mould, thus creating my medal design. I have been able to further explore colour and textural contrast by means of adding patination to the surface of the bronze.
